Cuba. 2003

It was my first real photography endeavour. I bought a used Yashica film camera. I had no chance to try it and develop films, because I was living at that time in a small place in Mexico. I hadn’t had too much experience with shooting film at all.

My goal was to immerse into the cuban reality for two months and get the anti-imperialistic perspective on everyday life. Hence the project’s name – “Anticonquista”.

After few days in Cuba I got tricked and lost big part of my money on fake cigars. I had to shorten my stay to a month. Bare feet and looking like a hippie I crossed the northern part of the Island staying often with the locals and not in casas particulares, as it was demanded from tourists.

Whatever the political or economic system – Cuba is a different mindset.
